Still at it!

Okay so tonight I just finished at the gym. Walked for 5 minutes, jogged for 2kms & then finished off on the bike for a 3km ride. I'm going to slowly build up my gym workout but to start, I think half an hour is a great start. I'll just keep at it. I have been going to the gym every second day since I last wrote, but only doing the jogging thing for 2kms. Tonight is the first time I've added something else.

My stupid stupid computer is dumb!! I'm trying to convince Dave to get me a new one this weekend, but he says we have to wait until my sister's finances are all sorted out (she's in a bit of financial trouble which Dave & I are helping her out of. It's nearly all sorted out, just waiting on a few more details so we can pay the last of it off) - so that might take another week or so, but I want my new computer NOW!!! I start my studies next week so I was hoping to get it by this weekend. Looks like I'll have to wait until next weekend.

Anyway...nothing much interesting is going on. We're off to the Childrens Hospital on Friday morning for another specialist appointment (a different one this time - we asked for a second opinion) for Ryan. Just want to make sure that what the first specialist said was correct. I mean, the flixotide stuff that Ryan takes (since they think he has a mild case of asthma) does help, but he's still really congested. I just want someone to give me a straight answer instead of just guesses - no matter how educated those guesses may be.

Another day over...

Okay, so yesterday, I went for another run (yeah, I know it's really jogging, but you know what I mean!) for about 15 minutes as well - up a different hill this time. Including my walking, I was out there exercising for about half an hour.

So tonight, I thought I would go to the gym to see how far I run in 15 minutes. I don't actually know what the distances are of the runs I do outside. So off I went to the gym, warmed up for 5 minutes, then started jogging...and in 15 minutes, I got as far as 2kms!! I cannot believe I ran 2km without stopping!!! The last time I tried doing this running thing, I think I felt like I was going to die after 2 minutes of running - 2 mins was a HUGE effort for me. Now, I can last 15 minutes and not feel like my legs are going to collapse from underneath me. Which, I guess, is my main focus. I don't want to tire myself out. After running the 2km, I honestly felt that I could push myself to keep going a little further, but decided against it because I want to keep doing it. Don't get me wrong - I definitely feel like my muscles have gotten a good workout; I only plan on pushing myself on weekends and on weekdays (when I have to go to work the next day), I want to do enough exercise to work up a good sweat, but still be able to move relatively easily the following day. I do not want to have to deal with achy sore-as muscles the next day or day after that. I want to have no excuses whatsoever to stop me from exercising.

As for how long I've been doing this? Well, I've only been jogging since Saturday morning. I have no idea why this time around, it's easier for me. I don't know why I haven't had to work up to 15 minutes because in the past, I haven't really done much exercise in the form of joggging (I tried, then gave up). Maybe it's because I no longer weigh 105 kilos. Maybe it's because I'm not eating so much junk, so my body is able to do this. Maybe it's because I'm drinking a lot more water than I used to. I don't know. I just know that I'm loving it :) (hey, isn't that a Macca's add??? - speaking of McDonalds, does anyone know if their apple & cinnamon toast - without butter - is a good/bad option for breakfast? I don't have time in the morning for breakfast, so I usually go there to get a coffee - skinny, of course - on my way to work)

Oh and the best part?? I went back to work today (after a week off with Ryan & his chickenpox!) and 3 different people came up to me saying that they've noticed I'm losing weight. One of them even said my tummy looks much smaller - yay! :)

I'm off to read everyone else's blogs. I hope this time my computer lets me comment - sometimes its temperamental, so I have to use Microsoft Explorer (which I hate) instead of Safari - bloody Macs!! (But I so love them!)

Oh the pain!!

So last night, we had the night off as parents (Ryan went to stay at my inlaws for the night) so we had my sister-in-law over for dinner (I cooked!) and I had probably about 6 glasses of red. In the good old days, that would mean that I was just getting started..but since Ryan has been around, I don't drink anywhere near the amount that I used to. I did the smart thing and ended up drinking about a litre of water before going to sleep...but still woke up feeling a little bit seedy.

I didn't want to run this morning...and after 100 metres or so, I was ready to stop because all I wanted to do was lie down on the path & go back to sleep. But then I figured, it's my own fault for drinking an amount of alcohol which really didn't agree with me, so I was going to finish the damn run even if it killed me! Which, of course, it didn't. And what's more? I can now jog for 17 mins!

I've decided that I'm not going to try to increase the amount of time I jog now. I'm going to concentrate on my speed. At the moment, it's a slow jog - so I want to be able to jog much faster than what I'm doing now.

So after I got home from my jog, despite the fact that I could feel every muscle in my body from the hips down and I really didn't feel like I could move, I collapsed on the couch with the biggest grin on my face - feeling oh so proud of myself. I know I have a long way to go...but I have hope :)

15 minutes, people...15 minutes!!!

That's how long I ran for today (ok, so it wasn't actually running per se - more like jogging slowly but still!!!)! I am stoked! A massive improvement from a fortnight ago when it was only 6 minutes. Dave & I took Ryan for a walk today so he could get some fresh air...and since today was a hell of a lot nicer than yesterday, off we went. I got Dave to time me to see how long I jogged for...and it was 15 mins. He was very impressed - I was even more so! I just took it nice & easy...and didn't give up! I have been on a high all morning since then. I've eaten really well and feel so much happier.

I gotta go get some lunch now but I'll write more tomorrow. I plan on doing the same run again! And to think that during that run this morning, I had to run up 2 hills! TWO OF THEM!!!

Just a quick one...

Okay, so my little boy now has chicken pox. So everything is put on hold - just till he recovers. But I'll be back. I have a medical certificate which covers me until Tuesday, so I'll post again then. I still intend to do my 20 mins exercise - which I'm happy to say that I have been doing - daily...but won't really have any time to update while Ry is sick.

The Return

I'm not perfect - far from it. I feel like I'm on top of the world and at my most motivated. After a while, I think that I'm strong enough to face temptation. Alas, I do stupid things. I fuck up. I feel sorry for myself. Then I start the whole 'health kick' thing again.

This is where I'm at now.

Previously, it's always been all or nothing. I know I've said otherwise, but it's always been that way. I'm either eating super healthy, or eating junk. My exercise routine starts out great and usually lasts around a month or so, then I miss one day & I never get back into it.

It's been a crazy couple of months. I've been feeling incredibly unmotivated and just plain BLAH! I've also been feeling so angry at myself for not getting off my arse and losing the weight before. My God! How many times have I been here? How many times have I said I'm going to lose this weight, get off to a great start and then just give up after a month or two because it all just seems too hard? I'm sick of it! I'm sick of punishing myself. I'm sick of feeling bad about myself. So it's time for a change. It's time for a plan. So this is what my new plan is (doesn't every just love a new plan???)...

I intend to move at least 20 minutes a day. I have hired a treadmill during these winter months because it's too bloody cold to go outside. It's only 20 mins - how hard can that be? I also intend to exercise in the morning to 1. wake me up and 2. to improve my energy levels throughout the day. Any other exercise done during the day is just a bonus!

Foodwise? Well, I intend to eat when I'm hungry. I plan on making smart choices and being organised (if I'm so organised at work, why the hell is it so hard to be organised in my personal life???)! I've switched to decaf coffee and am going to aim to drink at least 1 litre of water a day (I will increase this as it becomes easier to remember to drink water). So those will be my main two challenges for this month: Drink at least a litre of water and to drink decaf. Oh and to walk for 20 mins a day :)

So I've been thinking about what I want, what my goals are. And besides the whole 'get fit & healthy' thing, I want to run. I want to be able to run for half an hour straight. I want to not obsess over everything I eat. I want to be able to wear whatever I want and not feel embarrassed about being fat. I want to not have to worry about losing weight for the next upcoming event and then feeling depressed because, once again, I didn't get to my unrealistic goal. I just want to feel good about myself. I want to feel confident. I want to feel alive!

So today I walked for 20 minutes and I cleaned my house. I'm happy with that. I've drank just under a litre of water, so will drink some more before Grey's Anatomy starts.
